Bethan Nia & Jess Morgan

5PM

Parc Arts

Jessica and Bethan will be performing together for this special one-off performance of songs inspired by Morfydd Owen's life, her music and how she continues to inspire generations of artists - in particular, female artists, living in and around Pontypridd and Trefforest. The bilingual compositions are written by Bethan and Jessica and were funded by Ty Cerdd in 2023. The project included a workshop at Parc Arts for local female artists - their words also inspired and are included in the compositions. This performance is extra special - as it will be held at Parc Arts - the Presbyterian Church where Morfydd herself played the organ and composed during her early years, living in Trefforest.

With her harp and ethereal vocals, Bethan Nia creates lush, dynamic melodies with crisp production aesthetics. Combining earthy Welsh folk songs with her own song writing and ornate arrangements, she creates a particularly unique sound. Bethan is a winner of the coveted Danny Kyle award at Celtic Connections, and she has played festivals including Lorient Inter-Celtic, and Glastonbury Festival – after meeting Michael Eavis on a train!

Her bilingual debut album, “Ffiniau”, was recorded with REM producer Charlie Francis, and garnered positive reviews.
